Bedroom Photo Tour

I am currently studying abroad in Los Angeles, and one of the restrictions of this college is that I am required to live on campus in a dormitory for the length of my stay.

With the help of the room decor my Mum packed in my suitcase and my local Target store I have managed to make these four popcorn walls a little more homely.

I really enjoy all the inspirational prints I have on my wall, the majority of which are from Paper Source. Some of them are from the "A Beautiful Mess" Happy Mail deliveries which I receive monthly!

I do not spend a lot of time in my bedroom as the weather is so great here. However, I do find it a great place to study and read.

On another wall I have this sweet United States of America scratch map. This was a leaving gift from one of my close friends, Barnaby!

I have not included my desk in the images as it is overflowing with reading about plants and birds- very messy stuff!

Brunch in Santa Monica

January 25, 2016 Charlotte 2 Comments

I was invited to brunch at CAST in Santa Monica by my gorgeous friend Jamie. Jamie and I met when I was visiting Austin, Texas and she invited me to brunch with her lovely California friends. I took along my close friend Ella and we headed to the restaurant for 1pm.

We sat down fashionably late at 1.30pm and started our Sunday with mimosas and bloody mary's. The restaurant had a beautiful outdoor patio area around the hotel pool, with white garden furniture and heated canopies.

Whilst Ella opted for an omelet for brunch I decided to go for something a little more sweet. I chose the "Mediterranean Breakfast" which was made up of seasonal fruit, yoghurt, honey and banana nut bread. The colours on the plate looked so appealing and the fruit was so fresh and delicious.

It was so refreshing to begin the new year surrounded by new wonderful people, we laughed throughout the 3 hours spent in the restaurant. I really appreciated the change of scenery from college, it is so nice to meet people that are not students and to hear about their lives. Los Angeles is made up of so many interesting people, everybody has an different story!

Top 3: New York!

1. Mast Brothers Chocolate

Mast Chocolate

This day out in Williamsburg was easily the highlight of my trip. At 11am Dario and I strolled into the Mast Brothers Chocolate Shop in Brooklyn. We were both instantly attracted to the clean minimalist style of the retail front. The white walls and geometric shapes appeared like a gallery full of individually wrapped chocolate bars. A chirpy bearded gentlemen dressed in a white apron guided us around the store on a tour. We got to try the chocolate at different stages of production; from the fleshy cacao bean to the finished bar. It was clear how much time and energy is put into making these high quality chocolate bars as many of the bean sorting processes are carried out by hand, on site. The flavours we managed to try during the tour included smoked chocolate, goat milk chocolate, vanilla chocolate and dark chocolate.

2. The Comedy Cellar

On Sunday night we headed downtown to catch a show at the Comedy Cellar. After not quite grasping the American humour in our choice of Broadway show, I was slightly concerned about heading to the Comedy Cellar. However, as soon as Phil Hanley spoke any reservations I had vanished instantly. I was laughing non-stop at every line, the whole sketch was very relatable. My favourite comedians from the night were Phil Hanley, Greer Barnes and Kevin Brennan!

3. Williamsburg

Williamsburg is a neighbourhood in Brooklyn, the walls of its streets are lined with beautiful murals. The area has many independent shops and restaurants and is also where the Mast Brothers Chocolate shop is located. I am a real sucker for rainbow street art! It is also the home of the Brooklyn Flea Market which takes place every Sunday. The Flea Market has a mixture of vintage clothing stalls, craft stalls, furniture and food. Dario had a "Ramen Burger" for lunch. I was a little naughty and opted to have brownie topped with chocolate and berry ice cream!

Road Trip: Las Vegas

January 21, 2016 Charlotte 0 Comments

Saturday 19th December:

I left Los Angeles, California on a Greyhound bus headed for Las Vegas, Nevada. I would spend a night in Vegas on my own and meet my parents from the airport the following day. The 5 hour journey was a scenic route through the desert. I could not stop looking out the window, especially during the sunset! At 6pm I arrived in fabulous Las Vegas and sat staring out of the window with my mouth wide open, much like a small chid. The lights on the strip look amazing in the evening, there is so much to look at. I could see all the famous hotels that my parents had told me about.
I decided to go out and explore, the first hotel I wanted to see was the Bellagio. I got a car to there and went on to see the fountain, Caesar's Palace, the Venetian and the Palazzo. After all of that walking I purchased a giant bath bomb and had some "me time" before going to bed!
Sunday 20th December:

After dropping my baggage off at the Planet Hollywood hotel, I looked around the hotels for a while longer. I love that they are all uniquely wonderful with very different themes, Vegas is almost like an adult theme park. I headed into Starbucks in the MGM Grand for some strawberry granola. One of my favourite hotels was the New York, New York I spent some time walking amongst the New York scenery before moving onto the Mandalay Bay hotel. I was desperate to see this as Robbie Williams sings about staying in this hotel in the song "Me and my Monkey".
I headed to McCarran International Airport to await the arrival of my family. I was full of energy as I was so excited to see them after 4 months, however they were not quite as outgoing after a 10 hour flight. We wandered around Caesar's Palace and ate at the Cheesecake Factory before catching up on sleep.
Monday 21st December:

Jet-lag was something I had not considered being an issue for me as I was staying in the same time-zone. However, staying in a hotel room with 3 jet-lagged individuals made this my issue too. After several late night/early morning interruptions and the loud bang of Mum walking into a wall we faced our first proper day together in Las Vegas. Mum and Dad treated Sammy and I to an early Christmas gift. They booked for us to go on a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon. This was my first time in a helicopter and one of the best experiences I have ever had! The gorgeous red rock is so different to anything you would ever see in England and all the different rock formations in the Canyon are beautiful.
In the evening the ladies and the gentlemen split up and Mum and I went for Mexican food together. We sat outside overlooking the strip and the Bellagio fountain, it was really lovely to be able to spend some time together after being apart for so long. We wandered the shops near our hotel before getting more much needed sleep.

Hello, 2016!

January 10, 2016 Charlotte 2 Comments

I am currently sat in a hotel room at Los Angeles International Airport before a flight to Chicago in the morning. After many attempts of writing an essay I ended up scrolling social media and feeling nostalgic. I came across a blog that I started in 2012 and continued to writes posts on for over a year. It made me really happy to read posts about my adventures with friends at the age of 17. Right now, I am at a far more interesting stage in my life. Now, aged 20, studying abroad in California, I feel I should be documenting this far more exciting chapter of my life!

I hope that by keeping a blog I will uncover my old love for my SLR camera and continue to write. I have simultaneously started a moleskine journal to begin this new year.

I wish myself luck in keeping this up!
